Sideloading is built into Android, but the official store should be your first choice. Follow these steps when you truly need to install an APK manually.
Before sideloading, look for the app on Google Play. The official store is the safest option for installation, updates, and signature handling.
Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → select Chrome/Files → Allow.
If you do sideload, make sure the package name matches the real app and avoid cracks, mods, or unknown mirrors.
Tap the downloaded file, then Install. If Android blocks the install, confirm the package matches the official app name.
Play Protect still scans sideloaded apps. Leave it enabled for ongoing malware checks.
