Step-by-step guide to sideload APK files safely on any Android phone or tablet.
Open Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps. Choose your browser or Files app and allow installs. On older Android versions, enable “Unknown sources” under Security.
Use the official Google Play listing whenever possible. If you still need an APK, avoid “mod”, “premium unlocked”, cracked packages, and unknown download sources.
Confirm the package name, publisher, and version details before installing. Treat banking, messaging, and payment apps as high-risk if they come from anywhere other than the official store.
Open the APK, tap Install, and wait for completion. Keep Google Play Protect enabled so sideloaded apps are still scanned for known malware.
